This is a 2Kw to 4Kw Square AVR Voltage Regulator

This is a universal type square voltage regulator, also called an AVR. This voltage regulator is intended for use in 2Kw to 4Kw generator applications.

This voltage regulator has 1 large plug with 4 blades in side and 2 single female connections. The 2 bolt holes are on 3-7/8″ centers. The rectangle part of the AVR is 3-1/4″ by 1-1/2″ overall.

If your generator stops producing power the voltage regulator is one of the most common issues. First check your carbon brush assembly. The brush assembly should be making contact on both legs and connected with 2 wires. If the brush appears to be making contact you should visually inspect your AVR for burnt spots or blown capacitors. Voltage Regulators don’t always show signs of fault or issue. You will want to do further testing to find what your exact issue may be.

If your voltage regulator is defective this may not be your only issue. An AVR should last for at least 2000 hours in any generator. If your AVR does not have this much time used then you may have another issue. Even if your generator has over 2000 hours you may have an issue that caused the AVR to fail. If your voltage regulator hasn’t lasted very long there is a high chance there is something causing this failure. The most common issue with a faulty voltage regulator with low usage is excessive moisture or debris in the head. We suggest properly testing the generator prior to purchasing a new AVR or you can use a new AVR as a test to see if that is the only issue. The most common other issue is moisture or debris in the head, causing current to jump. Any replacement AVR may need to be adjusted when replacing.
