This is an 8Kw Round AVR Voltage Regulator
This is for a universal style round voltage regulator which is also commonly called an AVR. This voltage regulator is intended for use in 5Kw to 10Kw generator applications. The AVR connects to the electrical system with a 4 blade plug and 2 single wires for the carbon brush connections.
The part mounts in the generator via 2 bolt holes that are spaced 5-5/8″ on center. This style is called a round or half moon style voltage regulator and is used in many brands, makes, and models of generators. Voltage regulators are not wattage specific and therefore this AVR is intended for use in generators from 5kw to 10kw.
If your generator stops producing power the AVR is one of the most common issues but may not be the only issue. First check that your carbon brush assembly is making contact. If the brush is making contact visually inspect your AVR for burnt spots or blown capacitors. It is possible that your AVR will not show any wear or defect but will not work properly. The purpose of the AVR is to stabilize voltage so if the voltage is jumping around or not at the level it should be you have an issue.
If your voltage regulator is defective this may not be your only issue. An AVR should last for at least 2000 hours in any generator. If your voltage regulator does not have this much time used then you may have another issue. The most common other issue is moisture in the head, causing current to jump. Any replacement AVR may need to be adjusted when replacing.
