This is for a Diesel Engine Starter This is for a diesel engine electric starter. This starter is used in small diesel equipment with the electric start function. The most common engines these fit are diesel engines from 4hp to 10hp. Engines of that size mostly fit in the 170, 178, and 186 engine families.
Most engines found in the 170, 178, and 186 engine families use this starter. However, there are certain models this starter will not fit. After the engine family number there will be letters denoting exactly which engine you have. These letters for most commonly F, FA, FE, and FAE. For example, the 186 engine commonly comes in variations that include 186F, 186FA, 186FE, and 186FAE. Any engine outside of those models may or may not use this starter. For example, this will not fit the Italian made Yanmar engines.
